Miss You | NaBloPoMo day 13

After a weekend of hotel bliss (a bed to myself with extra fluffy pillows and no one to wake me with requests for cereal and "playing trains"? yes, please!) we came home today with tired minds but many accomplishments.  After dropping Kim off at her home, I drove to mine. Hubby had spent the weekend finally teaching Kiddo how to ride a bike and when I drove up they were practicing in the driveway. Port was riding his tricycle around in circles with his brother, and when he saw me pull up his little face broke into a huge grin. He hopped off his bike, and in one of those totally unreal sappy tv commercial moments he ran to me at full speed, arms wide open, screaming "Mummai! Mummai!".  I jumped out of the car and ran toward him and when we met I scooped him into my arms and he threw his arms around me and buried his face in my neck.  He was laughing and crying and so excited to see me - and I realized how much I had missed him. He is such a special little guy. Kiddo was too busy trying to show off his new bike skills that he didn't really greet me before he wanted me to watch him ride. I enjoyed spending some time with everyone in the driveway - the weather was perfect.

It was so good to get away. I do hope I have more opportunities to do it again in the future, but, today it feels great to be home.

Until,
D :)

Sick Love

{the best I could get of the Super Moon on Saturday.
It was already high in the sky and I was hand-holding the camera with a 200mm lens.
I'm so sad I missed such a great photography opportunity. }

...aaaaand on Saturday Hubby came down with some sort of flu like crap. Seriously, can we be done with this for a while? I don't even want to blog anymore because I don't have anything good to report. It sucks. I came home from the wedding I shot that night and he was shivering on the couch, running 103* fever.

He was down for the count on Sunday and stayed home from work today. I have been fussing at him constantly to not touch things - I really don't need to be caring for sick people and get sick myself. I just can't. There is no one to take care of me.

I am ignoring the fact that I feel nauseous. Nope. Not happening.

Meanwhile, I sent Kiddo to school today - he was feeling fine, but he still can't hear anything.  I don't know what his teacher is going to do. I feel for her. I can't imagine wrangling 15 other kids and dealing with one that is temporarily deaf.  At least he feels fine though.  Port, on the other hand, fell asleep on the couch at 6:30pm last night and when I poured him into bed at 7 he was burning up.  He woke up this morning slightly warm, but otherwise seems fine. I hope he stays well.

So let's see - what can I talk about that is good today? We have the basics - good. The weather - good. Coffee - good. My garden - good. Business - good.

So many "buts" in my head. "But, the tire on the van is about to fall apart. But, every time we turn on the a/c the condenser ices over and freezes. But, the sink is leaking and the floor is still messed up and this is falling apart and that needs repair and there is no money...." *sigh*

The "buts" keep getting in the way...

Oh! Oh! I thought of some cuteness!

Port - he is speaking a lot more now and coming up with some zingers.  He's very empathetic to people's emotions and he tries to comfort us when we get upset.  He is always telling his toys and the animals, "ees ok, don't worry, ees ok".  So a few weeks ago we were on our way to pick up Kiddo from school, and I was about to pull out on a road just outside my neighborhood. There is sort of a blind corner there, and sometimes people come flying around the corner just as you are pulling out. So I attempted to pull out and a car comes flying around the corner so I stomped on the breaks. I said to Port, "hold on, Baby!" as we lurched to a stop.  He then said in his cute little voice "ees ok, Mummai. Don't worry. You are Sooooo pretty!" :-D

A few days later I was changing his diaper and we were having fun; I was tickling him and blowing raspberries on his tummy and he was just eating it up.  When I got him all dressed again I stood him up on the bed where I was sitting and he threw his little arms around my neck.  He stroked my hair and put a big kiss on my cheek and said, "oh Mummai, you are such a good girl."

I just want to keep him in my pocket forever.

Until,
D :)

Be My Baby

Things are busy - I am sure you understand. I hope to get back to a regular schedule starting this week. So stay tuned for more blogging!

I managed to get both of my youngin's out in the back yard yesterday and we had some fun taking pictures on the hammock. Enjoy.

I may need a wider lens to capture all that goofiness. ;)

Today, I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day. I love all the people in my life in different ways and am so appreciative of them all. Even the ones that drive me crazy. ;) Mwah! Much love, hugs, warm looks, sweet nothings, longing stares, chocolates, flowers, and whatever else makes you feel special and loved today. May you see the beauty and love that is right in front of you and embrace it today and forever.

Until,
D :)

Release Me

Well I didn't want to end the year on my blog with that depressing post from last week. Things actually got worse from there. The tummy bug hit Port pretty hard. First there was a day of high fever (105 at the highest) and then there was a day of vomiting.  I was thrown-up on more times than I care to recall and ended up doing multiple loads of laundry throughout the day.  Port handled it really well, I have to say.  He didn't really cry much; you could tell it freaked him out a bit, but he always recovered quickly.

Thursday night we took a risk and took the boys to look at Christmas lights at a couple of local hot spots.   Thankfully we didn't have to get out of the car. Port was so distracted about the pretty lights that he did great. Of course, when we got home he threw up again a couple of times.

The next day was a day of horrible diapers and almost more messes than the vomiting caused.  By Friday night I was pleading to God for some relief!

Saturday, Christmas morning, was such a blessing. Port woke up excited and energetic and everyone else felt good too.  There was no more vomiting, no more bad diapers and everyone could eat!
 {mmm, homemade caramel apple cinnamon rolls!}

Yippee!! The boys were super excited about their gifts and I think Hubby got more play time out of the boys' toys than they did!

I am so thankful for a beautiful Christmas day! God is certainly good.  We were able to enjoy the morning; some enjoyed it a little too much!

We even made it to the inlaw's place for dinner.  I made my first ever brisket in the oven.  It turned out pretty good but it looked horrible! I am not sure how to make a brisket look pretty, but next time I attempt to cook one I will have to do a lot more research.

So yes, Christmas was great! I would like to wipe the couple of weeks leading up to it from my memory (except for the time spent with family of course), but thankfully the big day was great.  The rest of this week was awesome too - we got to spend more time with our family and Hubby and I even got 2 1/2 days of kid free time while the boys stayed with the inlaws just a few miles up the road.  It was so nice to be able to have a couple of date nights! I got a ton of work done and slept in for 3 mornings.  Pure delight! By Thursday though, the silence was getting to be too much and I missed my boys terribly.  I had a family photo session that afternoon and left straight from the location to go pick up my boys.

Port acted so strangely.  When I showed up, I walked up to the house and he was playing in the living room. He could see me through the door and he was all smiles.  The problem was, the door was locked and I couldn't get in (Grammy was in the back of the house and didn't know I had arrived).  My poor baby was twisting the door knob and trying with all his might to open the door and he couldn't do it. I walked around to the back of the house to try the back door and it was locked too. By the time I got back to the front, my baby was in tears. Grammy finally heard the commotion and unlocked the door. Port cried and cried and clung to me for dear life. It was as if he had repressed all the sadness of me leaving a few days before and finally it all came to the surface when I returned. He wouldn't let me out of his sight for the rest of the evening. When we got home, he didn't want to go to bed and ended up screaming and crying for about 45 minutes before passing out. He was so exhausted, but didn't want to sleep in his bed.

We had a pretty good day today, and we decided to stay home tonight and have our usual low key New Year Eve.  With so much that has happened in the last few weeks, I just really didn't feel up to another night out.  I cooked a bunch of snacky, finger foods for "dinner" and we all enjoyed a "feast" (as Kiddo called it) and the kids went to bed on time. Woot!

(for the record, jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and blue cheese, wrapped with bacon and baked are DIVINE! YUM yum, yummy, yum, yum!)

ahem

So tomorrow begins the new year and I am so excited at all that is on the horizon. I am ready to let go of the bad things that happened this year and start out fresh and positive.  I have some great personal stuff coming up this year and also some really great business stuff too. I can't wait to see what happens with everything and of course, share it all with you.

I'll close this with a partial quote from a post on my facebook page (that I stole from my cousin - she got it from dailyword.com) ...

I release and let go, ready to make the most of this present moment.
As I reflect on the events of the past year, I recognize successes and failures, gains and losses. Each event has taught me something and made me wiser. Knowing this, I acknowledge and release the past year in gratitude.
In contemplation of the coming year, whether I am excited or apprehensive, I know the spirit of God will empower me to meet every situation with confidence and strength. With this in mind, I release any concerns I may have about the future.
Today I am ready to stand tall in this present moment. I appreciate the now, perfectly balanced between the blessings of the past and the promise of the future. This is the moment of power and action. I am ready!
He has made everything suitable for its time.--Ecclesiastes 3:11

Wishing you an amazing New Year full of great fun, happy family, yummy food, fond memories and overflowing prosperity! See you in 2011!

Until,

Ready

It's finally ready!

I am so excited. If you remember, back in August of 2009 I ventured up to Dallas for a few days to hang out with the amazing Rachel Anne Ridge of Home Sanctuary fame.  She and I worked together on a book project of hers and I had an absolutely amazing time.

Well, after lots of life and other responsibilities got in the way, the project was put on hold.  However, I was so pleased to find out a couple of months ago that things were back in motion, and just last night I received the news.  The book is finished!!

I am so incredibly honored and humbled to be a part of this. My role was very small, but the end result is so awesome. I really hope that the book is amazingly popular for Rachel; she is so deserving of great success.

To see the story of how the book came to be, you can read today's Company Girl Coffee post. If you would like to order a copy of the book for yourself or a friend, you can click here. It would make an awesome Christmas gift for all the girlfriends in your life.  The story is precious, the pictures are beautiful and the sentiment is uplifting and joyous.  I hope you enjoy it. I know I will treasure my copy forever.

Until,
D :)

Amazing Love

Today is the coolest day.

No matter what happens, no matter how many issues I have, no matter the fact that I fried yet another iPhone and have no way to get to my messages, contacts or anything else I put on there, it doesn't matter that the van is about to explode any day now from the transmission and the brakes need replacing, it doesn't matter that I am still coughing and having sinus issues, and it doesn't matter that the day started with the filter folding over in the coffee maker and filled my fresh pot with crunch....today is a GREAT day.

Today, my son, Kiddo, prayed for Christ to come into his heart.

I cannot even begin to express how much joy I have right now!

And I have to say it was one of the weirdest, most unexpected events that I have ever witnessed.

Things were going how they normally do; I was at the computer and the boys were playing in the living room.  Kiddo was walking around, singing silly songs and kicking a toy car with his foot.  His silly song turned into a church song and he was singing it over and over again. I wasn't really paying attention until I happened to notice that he was making up words to the tune he was singing. At first they were just phrases about being good and kind and how God wants kids to be nice and have a clean heart. Then it turned into something about how he wanted a clean heart and how he didn't know how to be nice and kind and how he needed God to help him to not be mad and sad anymore. And the next thing I know, as he was still singing, he was pleading to God to help him to not be angry and to please give him a clean heart.

I looked up from my desk and watched him as he sang his thoughts over and over, still kicking around the car and his head hanging down. Then as I watched him, he dropped to his knees, clasped his hands together and burst into tears as he asked God to help him.

It was the most bizarre thing I think I have ever witnessed. It didn't seem real. He was so upset and he collapsed in a heap on the floor. I asked him if he was ok and he looked up at me with the saddest face. I called him over to me and cradled him in my lap.

I asked him what was wrong and what he was doing and he told me he didn't want to be angry and sad anymore and he wanted a clean heart. He didn't want a dirty heart and he wanted God to come in and give him a new one. I asked him over and over in many different ways just to make sure that he was telling me what I thought he was telling me and that he understood what it all meant. I didn't want to just assume he knew what he was talking about.

And if I am perfectly honest here, part of me was hoping this wasn't what I thought it was.

Not because I don't want my child to be saved; far from it. It is what I pray for every night. It was because, for one, Hubby is not in town this weekend and for two...

I didn't want to be the one to do this with him.

It is a HUGE responsibility! And I have been just absolutely terrified that I would have to be the one to lead my kid(s) to the Lord, and I didn't want to screw it up! What would I say? Would I even know the right way to do it? How would I even know I was doing it correctly?

I thought about calling my father in law and having him talk to Kiddo, but I didn't want him to do this over the phone, and I didn't think putting him off would be a good idea either.

So, I took a deep breath, prayed for the right words and together Kiddo and I prayed.

He seemed relieved and happy about it all at first. I did call my father in law a few minutes later and had them talk about it a bit. Then while I was on the phone with him Kiddo started fussing again that he didn't feel any different and that he didn't think he could "do this". We talked some more and hopefully I got him to a place where he understands that it is not always an instant transformation, but now that he has given his life to God that he can trust in God's strength to help him through all his trials and troubles.

I took him to the christian book store to buy a real bible. He needed one anyway as he is now expected to start carrying on to his Sunday school class each week.

Holy moly I had no idea there were so many different bibles to choose from!  Of course, he chose a gaudy bright neon green one (his favorite color) with Bob and Larry on the front of it. But I figure, the more interesting it is and the more he likes it, the more likely he is to carry, use and read it. And no sooner did we get home that he started reading it. He loves it. I had his name stamped on the front and I think I will get him a nice carrying case for it for Christmas. I couldn't afford the case today (much less the bible, lol) so that will have to come later.

He's been like this all day!

Praise God!!! I praise Him for it all today. I praise Him for the messed up coffee and the broken iPhone and the falling apart car and especially for the salvation of my son.  There is no greater gift than God's grace and our salvation, and I know that because He is good and faithful that no matter what my troubles are, His hand is in everything and I can always count on Him to show us tremendous blessing in any situation.

Today is the BEST day!

Until,
D :)

A Moment Like This

Happy Monday everyone!
Well, it has been an interesting week plus, to say the least. I don't think I have been under this much stress and emotional turmoil in a long time. I. Am. Exhausted.

Last week was just a big ol cluster of too many things happening at once. By the end of the week, I was crying at the drop of a hat and about to lose my mind. Though things are working out, I am still grinding my teeth at night and having weird dreams. Though, last night I slept like a rock.  When I woke up this morning, I felt awful; like I'd been hit by a truck.

The CRV drama has just become absurd.  The repair we needed to make ended up costing us $350. We had to replace 2 tires instead of 1 like we thought, and that was another $200. Plus, Hubby got a speeding ticket on the way back from the mechanic, and just to file with the court so he can take defensive driving is over $100. Plus, plus - when the tire place changed out the tires, something that was only slightly messed up with the suspension is now really messed up, and the front end of the car looks like a low rider. GAH! Oh yes, and just for grins, the driver's side door lock broke this morning.

So, close to a GRAND later we may have a semi functional car that we will most likely promptly sell. We can't afford this AT ALL.

Hubby's camera is messed up and needs to be sent to Nikon for repairs. Our 50mm lens is messed up and needs to be either sent somewhere for repair or replaced.

There is sooooo much more - but I am just too exhausted to talk about it all.

I really, really, really, really need a break. I am so looking forward to our family vacation coming soon. I can't wait for the boys to be occupied with the family and leave me alone for a while. I know that sounds horrible, but I am so incredibly tired of being climbed on and whined to and demanded all day every day. I want to just go somewhere ALONE and be able to hear myself, hear my own thoughts, hear nature, ANYTHING.

So, because I am tired of whining and complaining, here is some goodness. My bff came to visit on Saturday and it was sooo incredibly wonderful.  I was so encouraged by her visit that I wrote a series of status messages about happiness. Before they get lost in the Facebook abyss, I thought I would jot them down here, and maybe add a few more.

Happiness Is:
1.watching your baby play the tickle game with your bff. And he is the one crawling his fingers across the pillow to get her. :) ♥ ♥
2.spending the entire afternoon with someone you haven't seen in forever, and not having that awkward period at the beginning where you feel the need to make small talk. Picking up right where you left off as if the last time you sat down together was just yesterday.
3.watching your bff's kid and yours walk through the house, holding hands. ♥ ♥
4.having a friend that lets you laugh and cry and spill your guts, and still knows exactly what to say that doesn't make you feel like an idiot.
5.seeing God's perfect timing when He not only places the one person who understands in your life, but also on your doorstep on a day you need her most.
6. listening to the outrageous giggles of your children as they wrestle with their father. And better still, jumping in the middle of the dog pile with them.
7. listening to the sound of my Hubby's heart beat.

If you have little nuggets of happiness to share, I would love to read them. Just leave me a comment here on the blog and let us all know what defines your happiness.

Until,
D :)

Sea Legs

Yesterday Port had another melt down of epic proportions as we were leaving the grocery store. He wanted a bag of M&Ms and I wouldn't let him have them (the last time we were there he snagged a bag on the way out and I had to go back and pay for them). He screamed and kicked and fought me getting into the car seat and then screamed the whole way home. When we got home he cried some more and eventually calmed down enough to ask for something to eat. Before I gave him what he wanted, I got down on his level and calmly told him that all that screaming and crying and fit was wrong and that it was not nice. I told him he needed to apologize to me, and I said "say 'I'm sorry Mommy'". He looked up at me, opened his mouth, turned his head to Kiddo and said "I saw-wy {Kiddo}."

stinker

The past week or so has just been full of extreme ups and downs. Getting sick last week put my already behind self REALLY behind, and now I am struggling to even keep an organized thought in my head. Kim and I got away for a very short trip to the beach. We left Saturday morning and got back Sunday afternoon. It was so worth it, but way too short. I wasn't feeling 100% either, and so some of the time there was spent just sitting still and trying to settle my stomach. We stayed in a hotel in Rockport right on the bay, but Saturday afternoon we drove out to Port Aransas to check out the beach. Kim got to experience her first ferry ride. Thankfully for me and my unending queasiness, it was a short one. (photos courtesy of Kim, except the ones of Kim, those are courtesy of, well, me.)Walking on the beach was so nice! I just loved listening to the surf and feeling the sand on my feet. We had some silly fun too - this is in Port A near one of the many gift shops. I know, I look amazing. It's ok to say it. ;-)

We had dinner that night at the Paradise Key Island Grill. I was a little queasy. It may have had something to do with the "pink lemonade" I drank on an empty stomach while we waited 45 minutes for a table. It was so good though! They had a whole selection of great sliders that is not on the website menu. Kim had the beef and I ordered the shrimp sliders. By the time the food came I was too queasy to eat, but they were excellent the next day! The shrimp sliders were served with a very yummy remoulade/aioli that was also great on the fries. We were seated at probably the worst table available on the patio, but it was still fun. They had live music and lots of excitement with the bar patrons. Two older ladies jumped up from their seats at the their table and busted out dancing during one of the songs. Fishermen who still had sea legs tripped over themselves and almost crashed into me. A youngish guy with too many beers in his belly sang obnoxiously loud to a couple of songs and made Kim and I thankful we were no longer that age.

BUT - being out, enjoying dinner, and not having to deal with high chairs or wipies or sippies or snack cups or mac-n-cheese or screaming kids made it soooooo worth it!

That night I slept very little. I had a hard time actually getting to sleep - between the group of people down at the pool laughing loudly until almost 1AM and my sad, pitiful brain thinking terribly irrational and scary thoughts, I didn't drift off to sleep until sometime after 2. Then I slept lightly; being woken every few minutes or so by the air conditioner coming on or cutting off. I am used to sleeping in a wind tunnel with constant noise all night long, so the loud to dead-silent fluctuations kept me in a very light, troubled sleep most of the night.

It was still nice not having to share blankets or space. ahhhh!

The next morning on the way out we stopped at a little bay side business and looked for a few more shells for the kids. We found much bigger ones here than the ones we found in Port A.

I wish I had just half of her hair - it is so crazy beautiful!

It was a great trip, but way too short. When we got back I was a bit disappointed that the house was trashed and I had to jump right back into cleaning and dinner duty before I had even had a chance to sit down. But, that's being a mom I guess; as soon as you are within 50 feet of the short people you have to get right back to work. ;)

At least I got about 30 hours of only having to take care of myself. It was a nice break.

The boys were pretty happy to see me when I got back, and Kiddo cried for a good 30 minutes at bed time because for some reason he wanted me to stay in the room when I put him to bed. I haven't done that in a couple of years now, so his crying was both bittersweet and slightly annoying. Port went to bed quite easily that night.

So since then I have been playing catch up and riding this bizarre roller coaster. I am tolerating the boys' antics better, but they are still pushing all my buttons. Yesterday was filled with such highs and lows. I am sort of coordinating a project with the local children's hospital here that provides photographic services to needy families with children in the ICU, critical care or hospice situations. We received our first call for a session yesterday, so I had to find a volunteer available to do the session. Just the thought of the service being needed put me in a funk. But then the boys would do something cute (like working out to Yoga Booty Ballet - oh yeah!) and my spirits would be lifted. Then my website went down (the host server crashed) and I was panicked. Then I got an awesome compliment on my work and I was giddy again. The boys would do something horrible, down I go. Another compliment on my work, right back up!

By bed time I was exhausted.

And since this is getting way long, I bet you are too. I will stop now.

Until,
D :)

The Visitors

Happy Friday!

First, I would like to start this post with some ooey-gooey sweetness. This is an audio recording of my sweet babies singing the night-night song with me. The quiet voice matching pitch is Kiddo, singing what he calls "the cello part". The louder voice is Port. Enjoy!
Port Singing (link should be fixed!)

Doesn't that just make you all warm and fuzzy?? Ahhhh! Me too! I keep it on my phone so I can listen to it any time I want.

And now for the not so pretty...This has been one heck of a week! Let me back track a little to paint that pretty picture for you, shall I?

Ok, so last week, Kiddo had some tummy issues of the lower GI nature. I didn't really think anything of it; it happens every now and then. Also, late in the week some time, Port threw up one morning. It was weird; he had the hiccups and they were really harsh. When he did it, it was like he choked on phlegm or something, so again I didn't think anything of it. It freaked him out though as it was his first experience with that. Friday through Sunday I had tummy trouble and then Sunday and Monday Hubby did. Tuesday, Port had serious issues and had 2 very disgusting blow out have-to-clean-everything-in-sight diapers. Major Yuck.

Tuesday night Hubby had some tummy cramping and nausea most of the night, but he was fine in the morning. So by Wednesday, I started putting 2 and 2 together and realized that we may have been passing a tummy bug around. Sadly, my beautiful sister in law was already on her way to visit us, and there was no way to warn her of what she was walking into. But, I figured, it had been through the whole family so it was probably done, and before she arrived I made sure to wipe down everything I could think of with disinfecting wipes.

So she arrived Wednesday morning and it was so great to see her. She played with the kids and let me take a shower in peace, and then while the baby was napping she let me run to Sonic for 10 minutes to myself and a half price Dr. Pepper. Bliss!!! I brought back drinks for everyone and all was well. When she and the boys were outside playing that morning, they came in once when Kiddo complained that he thought he was going to throw up. It was a very strange thing for him to say, because for one, he's only thrown up twice and two, he was pretty little both times - I didn't think he would know what that sensation felt like. But, after coming in the house he said he felt fine so I didn't think anything of it.

After lunch and happy hour, we were hanging out and Kiddo ran to go to the bathroom. I heard him coughing and then he started crying. I ran in to find he had vomited all over the bathroom floor. Once I got him calmed down and everything cleaned up, he seemed fine and didn't complain about it at all afterward. Later that evening, I started feeling queasy and light headed.

I was sick all night and most of the morning yesterday. Good times.

It looks like I got the worst of it. Hopefully no one else will get sick and we will be done with all this. And hopefully my wonderful sister in law will escape unscathed. She thankfully was here to help me with the boys all morning while I was still throwing up and Hubby was able to come home early from work to help for the rest of the day. By dinner time I was feeling up to finally ingesting something more than sips of water. I started with a piece of bread and then later half a banana. A bowl of Ramen noodles topped out my night and then I started feeling queasy again so I went to bed early.

Thankfully this morning I seem to be much better, and aside from the wicked caffeine headache I have I am feeling great.

I am praying this has run it's course because I am leaving tomorrow for a short weekend at the beach with Kim, and it would be really bad if Hubby or one of the kids came down with this while I was gone.

So keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, please?

Thanks!

Maybe next time my sweet sis comes to visit, she won't have to play nurse and babysitter to a messed up family. So sorry Aunt Addie! Please come back soon! I promise there will be less sickies.

Until,
D

River God

Cuteness today:

Port standing in the pantry pulling each item off the shelf and saying, "wan dis? noooo. wan dis? noooo." At least he was putting everything back where it was supposed to go.

Earlier, he was eating a hot dog and spinning in circles. He would spin a couple of times, then stop and with a huge grin on his face and hot dog sticking out between his teeth he would say "I silly! I silly!"

When we arrived at church on Sunday we were a bit late. I was walking with Kiddo and Hubby was behind us walking with Port. Hubby was telling Port that we needed to hurry because we were late. As we walked in the front doors, Port yells, "we LATE!". His voice was so enthusiastic and adorable.

When he brought me a crayon, I told Port it was green. He said "oooh geeeen!" then looked at me and yelled "It's not LELLOW!"

Port is at that adorable and frustrating age where everything he does say is so incredibly cute, and everything he can't say brings him serious anger and frustration. He is a hitter and a head butter and I am really struggling to keep him from hurting himself and his brother when his temper flares. He's going to be a great football player or wrestler some day. I have a feeling contact sports are going to be his thing.

Gratitude Monday

This will be published late, but since it was technically Monday when I started, I should post some gratitudes (lookie there I made up a new word!).

1. my sweet Hubby, who made Mother's Day weekend so very lovely this year. We went out to dinner Friday night, he brought me a cake Saturday night after the boys went to bed, and Sunday Kiddo gave me the card he made, and Hubby gave me his "card", a $5 Starbucks gift card. He totally rocks!
2. my friends, who, when I really need it, bring me drinks from Sonic and special coffee from their trips - I love them so much and thank God for them every day. Specifically, Kim, who is such a sweet person and an amazing friend. I cannot tell her that enough!
3. my God, my Savior, my Redeemer! I have to praise Him every day! It is so amazing to me that when I am totally down and out, He surrounds me with people that lift me up and with words of encouragement everywhere I turn. And I am so thankful to be "just a little smoother in His hands".
4. podcasts - haha! I know it seems silly, but this whole new world of podcasting has led me to some of the most amazing people and experiences! I am so excited to see where this experience takes Kim and I in the future.

Hope you all have a blessed week!

Until,
D :)

Flower

Happy Monday all!

Today I took the boys out for a spur of the moment session in the bluebonnets. I wanted to check out a spot I found last week, so we stopped in at Walmart, bought 2 white shirts and headed over. It was difficult to do a session with them by myself; it is always easier to have someone else be the baby wrangler. But, I think I got a couple of good images. This is the beginning of a very busy week for me. I found out last week that the twin momma I have been in touch with about doing a newborn session gave birth and on Friday she went home with 2 brand spankin' new (as Kiddo would say) baby boys!! I am so excited and happy for her; it seems everything went really well. So, I get to go into Houston this week and do a twin newborn session for her. I am beyond excited! I love newborn sessions!!

I should be back by Thursday, and then this weekend I am shooting a wedding in Wimberly. I am so excited and nervous and anxious about that - it is a very big deal for me. I hope that my planning and preparation calms my nerves some. Thankfully I have an awesome assistant coming with me, the fabulous Jen of Jen Barnes Photo. I can't wait to work with her again! She assisted me on my last senior session and was so great!

So the wedding is on Saturday and then I have a family session on Sunday. Then a senior session the next week and Bluebonnet Mini Sessions on the next Saturday! Whew! Then on the 18th I will collapse in a heap and sleep for a few days. After that I will be strapped to the computer forever. ;-)

And somewhere in there I have to find time to finish my taxes. boo.

The twin session is on Wednesday morning and I need an assistant. Anyone in the Houston area free to come with me? All you have to do is help me with blankets and baby sculpting (lol!). Desirable abilities include being quick with baby wipes, the ability to fold large numbers of blankets quickly, to remember which items have been um, blessed and if you are good at swaddling, I might even take you to lunch! Please send your resume to me via email. Thank you.

hee hee!

Seriously, I do need some help if someone is free. And I really will buy you lunch after. Email call or text me please!

And, of course, it is Gratitude Monday!
Gratitude Monday

I am thankful for so much!
  • My family that came to see us this weekend and celebrate the baby's birthday (the blog post is coming, I promise!)
  • my business and upcoming sessions
  • great friends, near and far, and for the possibility of future BFFs *wink*
  • for the rainy days that bring out the growth of mushrooms in my garden - I hate digging those suckers up, but the veggies are loving the moist weather
  • for the garden; the dirt I can dig in, the carrots Kiddo loves to pull every day and the promise of good, organic food for our bellies
  • for the projects I am involved in - they keep me sane when there are days that I feel like nothing more than a crappy mom.
  • and for my readers; I am gaining more every week! welcome to all of you!
Join in and let me know what you are thankful for!

Until,
D :)

Two Is Better Than One

Yesterday my baby turned 2.

*sigh*

It is just going by far too fast for my liking.

My Dearest Port,

Yesterday was your second birthday. The night before both sets of grandparents came to town to see you and we all went out for an early dinner. You did really well, and it was a pleasant afternoon. You were so happy to see everyone! At dinner you kept repeating what everyone said. You learned a new word from Happy, "shuckaroonies". It was adorable listening to you say it over and over. You also told a few knock-knock jokes, and instead of ending one and going right to the next, you turned to me and asked "wus dah uh nee slah pur?" (was that a knee-slapper?) I had to pick my jaw up off the table! After we finished eating Daddy and Happy left so Daddy could do a photo shoot and the rest of us went over to Ikea to pick up your new bed. Your grandparents bought you (and your brother) a set of bunk beds. We brought them home and then visited with everyone until bed time.

When you woke yesterday morning, you were in the best mood, and instantly you started asking for your grandparents by name. In the past 48 hours, your speech has taken off like a wild fire, and I have watched in amazement as you went from barely saying anything we could understand to speaking in short, identifiable sentences and repeating almost anything any one else has said. It's as if you have been storing all these words inside and just waited patiently for everyone to be here before letting them out! You decided for some weird reason that you were not going to wear a shirt, and you stayed that way all day long.

Mommy, as usual, made a ton of food for your party. I made a wonderful pasta dish, a beautiful salad, rolls, guacamole, buffalo chicken dip, apple dip, German chocolate cake pops and of course, a cake for you. Your brother picked strawberry cake for you this year and while I hesitated at serving you a pink cake for your birthday, it was still a hit. You loved seeing the candle lit and hearing everyone sing. You sang along with us and clapped and cheered when the song was over. You enjoyed the cake but really, really loved the cake pops! I couldn't keep you out of them.

We played in the yard, checked out the garden with everyone and visited all day long. Aunt Addie and Uncle Wes drove in from Arlington and we were so happy to have them here! You flirted with Aunt Addie a lot.

You love pretty girls, and you will talk to anyone as long as you know Mumma is right there with you. You are independent and strong willed and very, very adamant when you want something. You can make me crazy at times because it is so hard to refuse you, and just when I think you have given up, you flash me a charming grin that melts my momma insides and make me give in almost every time. You have me wrapped around your little dirty, sticky fingers, baby boy.

You hate diaper changes because you think I am going to put you to bed after every single one. Nap times are hit and miss these days - you can make it without one, but it makes bed time a nightmare. Bedtime is a nightmare anyway, but if you've had a nap you are in a much better mood leading up to the actual getting into bed. You used to sleep so well, but lately you have been waking me up almost every night with your screaming. Your first night under the bunk bed in Kiddo's room (we left the bottom bunk off and put your crib in there) you woke and played in the middle of the night (according to your brother). I suppose that is better than the screaming you were doing, but baby, you need more sleep. Trust me on this, you will miss being able to sleep all you want when you are older.

You have a serious sweet tooth, and if you know something sweet is in the house you will pester me relentlessly until I get it for you. You still love eating frozen waffles frozen, and you live off of those and chicken dogs. You are a terribly picky eater, but a lot of times I can get you to try something if it is on my plate. You seem to like what everyone else is eating better than your own food.

You and Kiddo get along pretty well . You do argue a lot, but there is also a lot of love and adoration there, and I love it when the two of you get in loving moods. When you are sweet to each other, it is the most amazing thing ever. Often you will sit together on the couch or on the floor and share a snack. When I catch you two hanging out sometimes it makes me cry.

You like to get into my make up and lotion and put them on. And you love books. You aren't too interested in being read to, just looking at the pictures and saying the names of what you see. You have started to finally show an interest in drawing, so Big Brother bought you a magna-doodle for your birthday. I am hoping having one of your own will keep you from fighting with Kiddo over his.
You want to be just like your brother these days. If he has cereal in a big bowl, you have to have the same size bowl. If he drinks water out of the Ikea cups, you have to have one too. When I give you a sucker as a treat, you always ask me for a 2nd one and you bring it to your brother to share. You are really sweet like that some times.

Some things that haven't changed; you are still a rough and tumble baby - the more we rough house with you the more you like it. You love to swing high on the swings and you love it when I push you off kilter - the more you bounce and twist the better. You are so intense, and still make that clenched-jaw face with the adorable baby pro wrestler under-bite that shocks us and makes us laugh at the same time. When you are loving to me, you are intensely loving. You give me hard kisses (you grab my head and smash your little face into mine) and big big hugs.

Most days though, when you wake from a nap you need some cuddle time on the couch. It usually takes about 10 minutes of holding you and rubbing your back to fully wake you up.

One of your favorite phrases right now is "mumma, look!". But my favorite thing you say is "aww man!". It is just too cute the way you say it. You are growing so fast that I can't catch my breath. Every day I look at you and your hands and your face look more and more like a little boy and less like a baby. And I get excited and my heart breaks all at the same time.

I can't wait to see how you grow and mature. Just slow down a little bit, for Mumma, ok?

I love you Baby. Happy Birthday!

Mumma

Here For the Party

I had another good day for my birthday weekend. Hubby actually got up with Port this morning (which never happens) and attempted to let me sleep in. I didn't actually sleep much, because part of me was confused why he got up and another was that mommy sonic hearing that made me notice every little noise. Then right about the time I settled down enough to maybe doze for a few minutes, a little face popped up in my bed and whispered "Mommy I want to snuggle with you." When I ignored the face, it proceeded to grow hands and fingers that tickled my head and played with my hair.

ahem

I gave up and decided coffee was better than fighting the urge to sleep and not being able to. We had another semi leisurely morning. I had a photo shoot just before 11 at a beautiful local park. There was a wedding scheduled there that morning and we arrived just as it was wrapping up. We were harassed by a wedding goer who mistakenly thought the park was off limits to outside visitors while they were there. I made sure to stay as far away from the bride, groom and photographer as I could, the wedding was long over and the reservation on the park had expired, yet she still tried to make us uncomfortable by standing just next to the people I was photographing. I just kept smiling and shooting away and eventually she gave up. People amaze me sometimes.

Later that afternoon, Hubby helped me work on getting a fence around the back corner of the yard. He dug holes and poured some concrete to set 2 posts and we will attach a wire fence from one fence to another to make a corner. It won't be pretty, but hopefully it will keep the dog and her endless poop out of my garden area. I am so tired of dodging steaming piles while I am trying to tend to the garden.

We went to dinner early thinking we could avoid the rush and get back in time for the yummy carrot cake I made for myself. I chose to go to Red Lobster - I know, it's not anything special to most people but I never get to go anymore and Momma loves her some crab legs! We showed up at 5:45 and I have never seen the place more crowded. There were people waiting everywhere inside, all the bar seats were taken and every table outside was occupied with people waiting for a table. At 5:45!!! We waited about 50 minutes before being seated and by then we were all tired, hungry and cranky. I was not about to go anywhere else though.

I am glad we stayed because dinner was sooooo good! We had a gift card from Christmas and my inlaws sent me some cash specifically for dinner and with the two combined we only had to pay $4 out of pocket. Woo hoo!! The boys had fun playing with crab claws and eating the biscuits, mac-n-cheese and french fries. I of course had crab legs and Hubby got some special that had lobster tail and some other things.

We got back home just in time for bed for the boys, but I let them stay up a little so we could do cake. I put the candles in the cake (just 2), lit them and then the boys sang "Happy Birthday" to me. I blew out the candles and Kiddo asks, "so is this your party?" I told him yes and his eyes got all big and sad and he said "This is it? But, where are the balloons?" Lol! We got a good laugh out of that one. Poor kid, he thought I got gypped on a party.

The kids went to bed with relatively little fuss and we had a nice quiet evening.

All birthdays should be so sweet.

D :)

Monkey Business

Happy Friday!!

Today is my birthday! It was a pretty great day as far as birthdays go. The boys were fairly well behaved. After a lazy morning (when I woke up I had been dreaming of peppermint mocha creamer! coffee was definitely in order) of coffee and computer time, I decided to take the boys to lunch for my birthday. First I had to do my traditional birthday photo. It was much harder to get a decent one this year. Ugh.I may have to work on it some more.

Of course, the monkeys needed some pictures too.Does he not look exactly like his shirt???
Monkey see, monkey do...
Whatcha doin' big brother?
For lunch, Kiddo originally chose to go to McDonalds, but he wanted to go inside. I had to veto the decision because if we went inside they would want to play on the playscape. I am not really against the playscape, but right now, Port is so stubborn that I was afraid if he climbed up in it, I wouldn't be able to get him out of it when it was time to go.

So, we settled on Sonic and the promise that we could sit outside at the tables. The monkey followed us there apparently.Dude, seriously. Enough with the monkey face.
What is his deal mom?
When we got out of the van, I suddenly remembered why we never sit outside at that particular Sonic; the WIND. It was soooo windy that is was uncomfortable. But on top of that, the wind was seriously cold. The boys tried to tolerate it, but after a few minutes they were both shivering. I had a great idea that we should have a picnic in the back of the van instead. We don't have the back seat installed right now, so there is a lot of cargo space in the back. I opened up the back doors and we crawled in and enjoyed our lunch. It was actually pretty fun!mmm, Tatertots.
mmmm, drink.
mmmm, caramel dipping sauce.

Then, Port caught his reflection in my lens...
Silly monkey. Of course, Kiddo has some silly, mustard mouth faces of his own.
I had also promised we could get ice cream, so when we were finished we got back in our seats to place our dessert order. Port did not want to get back in his seat. He wanted in the front and there was no way to convince him otherwise.

Until... I found a sucker in the diaper bag. Yes!

The sucker was enough to entice him back into his seat, so I placed an order for Kiddo and I and we ate our ice cream on the way home. I shared mine with Port and he loved it! About half way home, Kiddo was complaining about something on his arm, and I turned around to find a piece of his cup stuck there. He had poked a hole in the cup with the straw, and the ice cream was beginning to ooze out everywhere. Thankfully we weren't too far from the house, so I wrapped the cup in a napkin and held it the rest of the way.

The kids were great when we got home. Port didn't want to nap so he screamed most of nap time away. I think he slept for maybe 45 minutes to an hour. He was pretty good when he got up though so it wasn't too bad. I gave him a carrot to chew on while I was making my birthday carrot cake with cream cheese icing and he absolutely loved it!
I finished up the cake and set the boys up with brats on the grill, then headed out with some of my girlie friends who took me out to a fabulous dinner! We went to south Austin to BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse. I had no idea we had a BJ's here - it used to be one of Hubby's and my favorite places when we lived in AZ. My friends know me so well; they treated me to great food (spinach and artichoke pizza, YUM!), coffee, Starbuck's gift cards and chocolate!! Thank you so much Kim, Julia, Shannon and Jen for a wonderful evening out. I really, really enjoyed it!

I came home happy and full and thankful for wonderful family and friends. It was truly a fantastically memorable birthday.

Until,
D :)

Music of the Night

I have seen friends talk about it on Facebook, but for some reason, for months I have avoided checking it out. I knew if I did, I would most likely be hooked.

And sure enough I was right. Today I checked out Pandora Radio.

All I did was plug in my favorite artist and Pandora created a station with all my favorite songs. It was amazing!

If you are a music buff and you spend a lot of time on or near the computer, this is the site for you.

Tonight I am having a mass editing session. The hubby is out with a friend, the kids are in bed, the house is quiet, I am sufficiently caffeinated and I have Pandora playing all my favorite songs. It is the first time in over a week I feel happy and joyful and content. I am tired, but I am absolutely loving the images I am producing and my passion for photography is being renewed rapidly.

It is a good night.

D :)

Funhouse

Well, it is November 1st my friends so

Happy NABLOPOMO!!

What is NABLOPOMO you say?

It is National Blog Posting Month.

Participants of NABLOPOMO join and strive to post on their blogs once a day for the month of November.

I participate every year, and this year will be no different. I am excited for the challenge. :)

I have been visiting the NaBloPoMo site and randomly friending people in the groups that I am in so that I can find some new blogs to read this month. Some of my favs in my sidebar have slowed down or stopped blogging all together and I am in desperate need of new reads. So, if you got a friend request from me, never fear, it is just because I liked the looks of your blog. ;)

In other news, yesterday was a full and wonderful day!

I am not typically the kind of person that likes to do more than one big thing a day - it just stresses me out too much. But yesterday we had a lot planned. We got up early and had a garage sale. It was so cold that my hands felt like they were going to break as we were taking out all the stuff to line up in the driveway. Thankfully though, we sold off some things, made about $75 and cleared out a huge space in the garage.

After our sale was over, we loaded up all the remaining items into the van and hauled them off to Goodwill. We took a load of books over to Half Price Books and made a few bucks there too. A few of the more valuable items were saved and will be listed on Craigslist this week. Over all, I think it was a pretty successful event.

Midday, Hubby went over to a huge car show in town and he thinks he acquired some good leads for photo sessions.

That evening, we all dressed up (well, Hubby didn't, but I did) and took the kids over to a friend's house for a Halloween party.

There were a ton of kids, including Kiddo's favorite gal pal, WordGirl, and tons of food.

We had a great time trick-or-treating in their neighborhood - almost every house in a 5 block radius had tables and chairs set up in the driveway, decorations all over and friendly smiles. It was awesome. Kiddo and WordGirl were inseparable,
Photobucket

so Hubby kept up with them and the majority of the folks from the party while I chased Port down the street. Seriously, the kid would not stop running.

Photobucket
He wouldn't go to the houses and get candy (I guess he's still to little for that) so he would just cruise on down the sidewalk.
Photobucket
{"baby batman!! come here batman! want some candy??"}

Thankfully some of our friends who were also at the party enjoyed the faster pace, so I tried to keep Port going with them.

Every time he got too far ahead, I would squat down and have him run back to hug me. It was pretty cute (and of course, I was totally digging my sweet baby hugs!).

At one point, I asked him for a kiss, and instead of the usual offering of a cheek, my baby planted a full on puckered mouth kiss right on my mouth! It was a little slobbery, but oh how I loved it! He rarely ever offers up real kisses. I got another kiss later on in the evening as well. I guess he was trying to tell me he had a good time!

We eventually made our way back to the party house and hung out in the driveway for a while. The big screen was out on the lawn with the UT game on and neighbors had put up a huge bouncy house for all the kids. They also pulled out fire pits for a big block party s'more roast.

I totally want to move to that neighborhood.

We came home completely exhausted but in good humor and all of us collapsed in our respective beds. It was such a great day.

Many thanks to our sweet hosts and to everyone who participated in the evening. It was great to see you all again!

Until,
D :)
