Satisfied

This is one of my favorite all time songs and I had forgotten about it until Pandora blessed me with it tonight. I think I have shared it here before, but I think it's worth sharing again, 'cause we all need reminding sometimes... Have a great weekend!

First, the lyrics...
If you love somebody
You better let it out
Don’t hold it back
While you’re trying to figure it out
Don’t be timid
Don’t be afraid to hurt
Run toward the flame, run toward the fire
Hold on for all your worth

Cause the only real pain
Your heart can never know
Is the sorrow of regret
When you don’t let your feelings show
So did you say it?
Did you mean it?
Did you lay it on the line, did you make it count?
Did you look ‘em in the eye & did they feel it?
Did you say in time?
Did you say out loud?
Cause if you did Hun
Then you lived some
And that feeling inside
That's called satisfied

Busy people walkin’ by
Can’t help but worry some
So many things to do
So little love gets done
Empty hearts everywhere
Drowning but dying of thirst
If we want love, it’s not that tough
Start by giving it first

It's easy to give
Baby can't you see
Just close your eyes open your heart
And do what comes naturally
So did you say it?
Did you mean it?
Did you lay it on the line, did you make it count?
Did you look ‘em in the eye & did they feel it?
Did you say in time?
Did you say out loud?
Cause if you did Hun
Well then you lived some
And that feeling inside
That’s called satisfied

Horses were built to run
And the sun was meant to shine above
Flowers were made to bloom
Then there’s us
We were born
To love
We were born
To love

So did you say it?
Did you mean it?
Did you lay it on the line?

So did you say it?
Did you mean it?
Did you lay it on the line, did you make it count?
Did you look ‘em in the eye & did they feel it?
Did you say in time?
Did you say out loud…
Because if you did Hun
Well then you lived some
And that feeling inside
That's called satisfied

The Last Song

It is the last day of NaBloPoMo, the last day of November. I can't believe we are already this far along in the year and so close to Christmas. I am still neck deep in editing and orders and deliveries, and I still need to get my own family photos made and a holiday card designed, ordered and sent out. I already feel like I am behind the game and December 25th is looming ever closer over my head.

I wish I could muster some happy happy today, but to be perfectly honest I am pretty stressed out and feeling blue. I'm not sure what has come over me. The boys were being whiny (though they are playing together really well right now) and it is just adding to my stress and frustration.

I am feeling very stifled lately.  I'm not sure how to describe it, other than that. I feel like I have so much to say and I can't say it.  I feel like I can't be myself right now and I really want to. I am so busy, and it is a good thing for sure, but the weight of my responsibilities is sort of crushing my spirit at the moment. I am sure it is only temporary, but it hurts nonetheless.  I feel like I can't breathe sometimes.

It is that horrible feeling that makes one daydream of packing a bag and running away for a while. Shoot, sometimes I don't even want to pack. I want to be irresponsible and grab a credit card and just have some fun. I want to make everything right for once - fix all that is broken and replace all that needs replacing.

I want to free myself, if only for a little while, of the things that keep me tied to my office chair.  I am sure I will get some sort of break toward the end of the month, but the urge to run is very strong right now.

I need to figure a way to get the words in my head out of there. They are making me crazy.

Thankfully I can now safely listen to Christmas music without too much ridicule so I do have some relief. The songs remind me of no particular person, event or stage in my life like most do, but only of happiness and family and God.  I have had Frank, Bing, Elvis and others in my ears all day and it is wonderful.

Until Port runs up to me and screams, "Mummai, no SINGING!"

Where was that suitcase?

Until,
D :)

Touch The Sky

This is Port's favorite song in the whole wide world. (not that he's been exposed to a plethora of music, but whatever) No matter what he is doing, no matter where he is in the house, when the first notes of this song play, he drops everything and runs to the tv. He stands there, totally wide eyed and mouth open, mesmerized for the entirety of the song until the part where he gives Snook a high five by touching his hand to the paw on the tv screen. At that moment he breaks out into a big grin, gives the high five, then steps back to his eyes wide, mouth open position. He LOVES that song. So much so, that it is what I sing to him every night when I put him in the crib. He gives me a high five too. ;-) I have never seen him so mesmerized by a cartoon character like he is with Snook. When the show comes on (Big Big World), he gets so excited. Strangely though, he doesn't really watch it much, just the song at the end.

But I have to say, I love singing the song to him. He calms down, he gets the funniest looks on his face, he gives me googly eyes and goofy grins. My heart melts as I watch him listen so intently. It's just one of those things that I love having with him that I know I can use if ever he is freaking out or over hysterical. He loves it sooo much, and it instantly puts him in a state of zen.

So I thought I would share it with you. It really is a pretty song.

D :)

The Song Remembers When

I have had an iPhone for almost 2 months now and I am just now getting around to putting some music on it. The ability for it to store so much and act as a super mp3 player is one of it's best features, and I have yet to utilize it.

So for the past couple of days I have been digging up all my cds and uploading them to iTunes and then syncing my phone. It has been quite the wonderful process - I am rediscovering so much music that I had forgotten about. It has been quite the trip down memory lane as well. I am sadly reliving a lot of my high school memories, the little good and the lot bad, but amazingly, while the music brings me there and reminds me, it also helps me rise above it and float away on a happy little cloud.

No, not that kind of happy little cloud...boop boop shoop shoop...

But anyway, I've been enjoying all the old music. Even the stuff I am embarrassed to own. lol! I just love how it makes me feel, the thoughts it invokes, the inspiration it provides. I love how it motivates me and makes me smile and gets me moving. I tolerate the boys better, I get more housework done and I just enjoy the day more.

One of my extremely talented photog friends, Kevin Gourley, always posts the most wonderful quotes on his Facebook page. Usually they are quotes from other people (I am particularly loving the Winnie the Pooh series he's been posting lately) but today he posted in his own words...

"Sometimes I suspect "heaven" is simply made up of music. Music is an art form that touches our souls, transcends this world..."

I just love that! Music really can elevate you almost to another dimension. To me, listening to great music is like having a little slice of heaven on earth.

Of course, everyone has their own idea of great music. ;-)

You know how I mentioned a while back that Hubby retrieved an iPod off the road after he saw it fall off the top of someone's car? Well, about a week later was the TORCH (Texas Off-Roaders for Christ) Christmas party. At the party, they had a raffle and door prizes and Hubby just happened to win a speaker set with an amp that plugs into mp3 players. It is a super nice set, perfect for hooking up an iPod and playing some tunes. Some people have all the luck...

Anyway, he brought it into our living room the other day so he could play his iPod, and today I was able to hook up my iPhone to it. It was soooo cool! I was singing all afternoon. I can't remember the last time I did that.

Our cd collection needs a serious overhaul. I found so many empty cases, and cds in the wrong case; it was insane! I opened up my Norah Jones case to find some weird cd of Canadian harp music! (yes, you read that right) Canadian harp music?!?!? really??? Oh yes. Neither Hubby nor I have ever seen that cd before, so I am not sure how it got in there.

At least, Hubby claims he's never seen it before...

So now that I have dug up all my old tunes and am excited about music again, I am looking for a new cd to add to my collection. I have a credit at Amazon...any suggestions? What are you totally digging right now? It doesn't have to be a new artist either. I recently discovered Alison Krauss, but I am not loving any one particular cd. There are lots of individual songs of hers that I love though.

I can't wait to hear about the music you listen to!

Until,
D :)

Hallelujah

Hey there Company Girls!
I am sitting here at the computer (shocker, I know) playing with all my new friends on Twitter and watching the Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies. (talk about a roller coaster ride - one minute I am snoozing {Peter Pan anyone?} and the next I am moved {KD Lang, Hallelujah - if you didn't hear it, look for the youtube vid when it comes out. GORGEOUS!}, then I just want to make it stop {I love opera, but...}...mercy! lol) Anyway, I wanted to get a quick post out to say hi and check in with you all.

Rachel Anne's little homemade coffee pot cracked me up! That's my girl! Don't let anything keep you from your morning caffeine injection. I'll have to remember that the next time we wake up without power.

I hope everyone is staying warm and dry during all this snow business. We haven't received any here; just a lot of sleet, rain and general muck. I am so tired of the cold. Thankfully the sun came out today for a few hours, and I was able to get out with the boys and run an errand. We hit Sonic's happy hour so I could let the van run for a little bit. The battery that we bought a few months ago for some reason isn't holding a charge anymore, and every time I get in it and start it up it is a struggle to get it to turn over. It will charge up if I drive it for a while, but if it sits overnight or for a couple of days I can barely get it started the next time we load up. That's not a fun thing when it takes so long to get everyone in the car in the first place. Thankfully it hasn't left us stranded yet, but something needs to be done soon. I was going to see if I could get it replaced at Walmart (they installed it) when we went today, but I guess we arrived at just the wrong time because the automotive area was PACKED. So, Hubby will be toting it up there this weekend sometime.

So I got a decent amount of sun on my face today. I am determined to soak up as much as I can this weekend. 2 weeks of dreary, rainy, cold days just about did me in. Can you say moody? I got my package from the garden supply, and it is just sitting here, unopened, waiting for spring weather. It makes me so sad every time I see it. I want to plant my garden NOW!! :(

I found an old video of Kiddo on our computer the other day. I have been trying to upload it to my blog for days, but it keeps messing up. I may have to edit it so I can get it on here. It is from when he was about 10 months old, and includes the clip of his first steps!! I still can't believe I caught that on tape. As soon as I can figure it out I will post it.

I have so much going on right now - I don't know if I am ever going to catch up. But it is all good and I trust that God's hand is in all of it. I am just hoping my patience can last through it.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for having coffee with me!

Until,
D :)

From the Inside Out

A new to me song heard in church this morning; I can't get it out of my head...

I don't often listen to Christian music (or any music really these days) unless something just stands out and reaches me in church or on the radio. This morning our praise team performed this song and, though I have never heard it before, it touched me instantly. By divine grace I instantly new the melody and the words roll off my tongue as if they had been there waiting for years. It was a moving experience; one that prompted me to get out a pen and write down the lyrics. It is rare that a song will do that to me, though I am tremendously touched when it does. I welcome any opportunity to feel closer to God, and this song took me there this morning.

Not surprising, this next song is one of my current favorites too. I just discovered they are by the same group/church/Hillsong. Looks like a new CD may be in my future...

Oh how that moves me! Praise God! I love the part toward the end when everything goes up and the bass starts in with the boom boom boom boom, boom boom boom boom, etc. It makes me want to raise my hands in the air!

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. I am feeling better finally from the cold I had and will be back to blogging soon.

Check back tomorrow for Gratitude Monday, the revival. lol!

Until,
D :)

Ok, one more of my favorites!! AHHHH Yes!

If I Can Dream

So today just feels like a music kind of day. I haven't shared any with you all in a while.

Of course, there is always room for the King...

And of course, there is always room to praise the One True King

Nicole Nordeman, Legacy

I first heard Legacy on a friend's blog - actually the same good friend that introduced me to her in the first place. This song, I have to say, is MY song at the moment. Even the video - it was like they just grabbed it right out of my head. Seriously. I can't listen to this without bawling like a baby. The first time I heard it, I ordered the CD immediately. (thank goodness for Amazon credit rewards!! It was FREE! woo hoo!)

Anyway I hope you enjoy it.

I am sporting the beginning of a headache today - the allergies are back (after a much welcomed hiatus while we were in Houston). I think my troubles may have something to do with the garden. If I don't shower at night after working in it, I wake in the middle of the night clawing at my head.

An update on the garden; the zucchini production has started to slow some. It is most likely due to the infestation, but it is welcome because I was seriously getting swamped with zucchini. So I am ok with it for now. Cucumbers are next; we have a few ready to pick. The green beans have somewhat slowed too - I think due to the heat. One of the green bean stalks (vines? plants?) has died, so I am trying to determine if it is wise to untangle it from the rest and get it out of there or just leave it be. I did remove some browning beans from it and have them sprouting in a dish in my kitchen, they will be the next generation of my bean plants and will be planted in the second garden this week some time. My tomato plants are absolutely huge - but still I only have 2 tomatoes growing. I found another hornworm on one of the plants and brought it to my friend Kim last week for her kids to observe. It sat with us and kept us company while we recorded our podcast last Sunday!

The black bean and lima bean plants are still small but growing well. I think this weekend I may try to make a trellis of sorts out of some scrap wood for them to climb. I used tomato cages this go round, and while they worked ok, there is a lot of entanglement along the top. They really need something taller and more spread out to climb on. My red and green bells are still very small, but doing ok, and I have one loan jalapeno pepper plant struggling to survive this heat. We pulled an infested corn stalk the other day - it produced one ear but it was half eaten already. I may just pull the rest of them and redirect the zucchini that have decided to grow outside the perimeter of the garden. My sweet little brussel sprout plants are still going strong, despite having the holiest of leaves. I hope they are able to produce some nice sprouts come the fall.

Right now I am in search of organic garlic bulbs to plant. They should go in the ground around September I think to be ready in the spring. My fall garden will include more zucchini, maybe another type of squash, pumpkin per Kiddo's request and things like peas, carrots, broccoli, potatoes and onions. I am also hoping to try for some fall greens again, replanting spinach and maybe a lettuce variety or two.

Here are a couple shots of the kids. Port has become quite the outdoor baby recently. He loves to go outside (mosquitoes be darned!) and he stares out the back door many times a day. He knows he has to have shoes on to go outside, so he will bring me any shoe he can find (his, mine, Kiddo's, Hubby's - it doesn't matter) and then whine to me until I give in. He loves the swing and just running around our back yard. He doesn't care about the heat or the bugs; he just loves to be out!
One day last week during Port's nap I had a brief photo session with Kiddo. Out of the 30+ shots I took, this is only one of 2 that he actually looked AT me. lol! Silly kid!
Tomorrow, the story of our anniversary! I bet you can't wait! ;-)

D :)

Praise Ye Da Lord

This was just too cute not to share. Please, please excuse the house. A tornado (named Kiddo) had blown through yesterday and I simply hadn't had the strength to do anything about it yet.

Kiddo singing "Praise Ye the Lord (Hallelujah)"

Not bad huh? He's pretty much in tune right up to the end. [ok, so I watched it again and I take it back - soooo NOT in tune! lol!] Then the excitement caused him to modulate up a half step or so (wink).

Right after this video we played my new favorite game in the world. I call it Toy Pickup Race. Remind me to tell you about it sometime. [insert devil horned smiley face!]

Until,

Fix You

Ok, another stolen moment here...

I am so incredibly tired of all the "stuff" we have in this house. Being here day in and day out is starting to suffocate me. We keep everything it seems - I simply cannot stay on top of the epic clutter problem we have.

[why is it that Kiddo will leave me alone all day (even if I am sitting at the computer) and the instant I try to blog he is up in my face??]

Anyway, the clutter. Yes, it is taking over our lives. I hate it. I loathe it. I, for some ungodly reason, cannot let go of it.

Well, I do have some reasons. Some of it is laziness. Some of it is not knowing if I need to keep it. Some of it is sentimental, and some of it is the $$ I see going in the garbage. I HATE wasting money. And that is why there is about $200 worth of unused hair product under my bathroom sink. Well, not anymore. I threw it all away yesterday.

So now there is room under the sink, but no one can tell. lol!

Our biggest issue in this house (that I can see) is paper. We have got stacks and stacks and piles and piles of paper. Bills, letters, cards, magazines, books, etc. etc. It can't be good for Hubby's allergies. We have "hot spots" all over the house. (yes, I subscribe to FlyLady - though she annoys me so it's hard to get really into it) The worst two are the kitchen counter and the dining room table. Before I can even blink those two places disappear in the rubble. It is amazing how quickly things pile up.

Another of our troubles is holding on to things. Just things in general - knicknacks and gifts and stuff that just collects dust. We hold on to old computers [cuz someday we might need a part or can build a custom computer - yeah right] and old clothes and shoes and video tapes and cassette tapes and, and, and...it goes on forever.

How I long for a minimalist life. I would love to have a home in which I can actually *see* the furniture.

So, somewhere in my head there is a reason for all this stuff. It all has a purpose. Sure, I can live without about 90% of it, but I have it, I bought it, so now what?

Where do people keep things? Seriously! I was in a good friend's home a few weeks ago and it was spectacular! I mean, there was nothing but nice furniture and minimal, tasteful decorative items. Where was her stuff??? I cannot fathom that she might actually not have stuff, so where was it??

I hate stuff.

Unfortunately, I can't get away from it. I need more of it. Right now I am putting together a shopping list in my head. We need an exersaucer for Port, wet bags for the diaper pail, I am still looking for a carrier (Julia I need to email you)...it never ends.

So yesterday I, like I said, threw away about $200 in old beauty product. Bottles of gel and conditioner and just about every kind of hairspray under the sun, leave-in treatments, shampoo for red heads, old hair dye that never got used, facial scrubs, foot scrubs, goodness there was so much. There was stuff in there I don't even remember buying. I found an entire, unopened box of tampons in a brand I have never used! Where did they come from??!? [by the way I saved those thinking I could find someone who needs them. What brand do you use? Is this a ridiculous question? yes.]

I put stuff in the trash bag as fast as I could and tossed it in the garbage can before I had the time to change my mind. Then I mopped the kitchen floor and scrubbed the master bath sinks to take my mind off of what I had done.

It felt good and painful all at the same time.

I have got to figure out a way to get rid of our stuff. My biggest problem is, I am lazy.

As I also stated earlier, I subscribe to FlyLady. I have for some time now, but after about 2 weeks I started deleting the emails unopened because they got on my nerves and where so overwhelming.

And I refuse to wear shoes in the house.

Anyway, I am scouring her site once again, 4 years later, trying to pick up some helpful hints. But I think the key is going to be...

getting organized and

getting a routine.

A routine?!?!? Gah!

I am so not an organized routine person. Lord help me.

We shall see how this goes.

Anyone have any other helpful suggestions? Organizational tips? Hiding places? I am desperate here. Wanna come to my house and do it for me? Please?

Until,
D :)

Amazing Grace

This was passed to me via an email from my mother in law.

It is a beautiful piece of history and praise of God's glory. I encourage you to watch and listen to an amazing performance of Amazing Grace. The video quality is not that great, but the point comes across just the same.

Now I'm Here

I'm here, I really am. Some day when I get a brief moment and a spare hand I will complete one or two of the bazillion half-written blog posts in my post box.

Anyway, just didn't want you all to think I'd forgotten about you.

You're the One That I Want

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall...
Yeah, all you got to do is call.

And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah...
You got a friend.

Can you tell I'm listening to the fabulous James Taylor?? Or perhaps you thought it might be Carole King? Well, technically you are both right. I just got some awesome new cd's (well, new to me I guess, they are not exactly new releases). I so LOVE rewards points on my Amazon credit card! The Best of James Taylor and Carole King Tapestry showed up in my mailbox the other day.

So close your eyes...you can close your eyes, it's alright.
I don't know no love songs, and I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song, and you can sing this song when I'm gone...

Jewel's new cd that comes out on the 3rd will be arriving shortly after that. And none of them cost me a dime.

Sweet, sweet rewards!

Of course, I got the rewards because I spent a bunch of money on other things, but we won't think about that right now. ;)

And speaking of shopping (we were speaking of that, right?) I have been lusting over a few things lately.

I have managed to acquire several varieties of baby carrying contraption and I am still looking for something that really works for us. There is so much out there; slings, pouches, wraps, buckets, shells, etc. and due to the generosity of friends and from my own spending back when Kiddo was a wee babe I have about 5 or 6 to choose from. 5? 6? Why don't I know for sure? Let me think about this...

I have a Hotsling - it's a tad too small, black (so really hot to wear) and it attracts lint and hair. It's no good for Port right now because he's too big to cradle and too small to hip carry.

A friend loaned me another pouch type carrier that is just a tad too big and again has the same problems with Port being too big or too little for certain positions.

The same friend loaned me a Solar Veil Ring Sling - I just can't seem to get the hang of it and Port doesn't seem to wild about it.

I have a Moby Wrap - waaaaayyyyy too hot right now.

I also have a mom-made Mei Tai that is really beautiful. I tried to put Port in it once and he screamed bloody murder. I will try that one again.

That's all of them, so 5 I guess.

Shower the people you love with love. Show them the way you feee--eeell!

ANYWAY.... I really would like to find a carrier that is cool enough to wear during the summer and also is comfy for Port and versatile. I am so loving these right now...

But Mo-mmy!!! All my friends have one!

Seriously, all my friends do have one. It's uncanny. And now that I am looking at it, I really like the one in the picture, but if I had my druthers, I'd design my own to have this on on sideand this on the other
maybe with a pale blue strap? hmm....

But man, oh man they are pricey! That little dream combo I came up with would cost me $90!!

Yikes.

So I am scouring the Craigslist and the Babywearer looking for a loved one that someone wants to sell for slightly less. No such luck so far. *sigh*

One of my bbc momma friends posted a link to these...
And I am so in love with this pattern. They have another green one that is beautiful too. They are supposed to be very light weight and cool and easy to wear.

But again, $$$. Though not as bad at the Mei Tai. *sigh*

The good thing is, I have some photo shoots lined up so hopefully I can set aside some profit to fund one of these. Or maybe I'll get lucky and find a used one somewhere. Or maybe I'll just stare at the pictures all summer and drool onto my laptop.

Who knows?

What's on your current wish list?

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now. And she's around me now...

Until,

D :)

Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters

A while back I was tagged by Vick for a meme. I am supposed to post 7 weird things about myself.

Mercy, only 7?

Actually, I have been thinking about it for a while and I am not sure if the problem is narrowing it down, or coming up with 7 things to share.

I mean, I don't want you all to stop reading!

Because I am so completely normal.

eh hem.

Anyway.... I think I may be able to finally possibly participate and list out my silly little quirks. I mean really, they are not even worth mentioning. Simple and small and not even really that weird. Absurdly normal if you ask me.

So here they are in no particular order.

  1. I have a jukebox in my head. No, not a juice box, a JUKEBOX. As in music? No seriously. I do. There is a song playing in my head 24/7. Many times I will hold on to a song for days - D A Y S!!! until I am absolutely, positively sick and tired of the song and have absolutely no clue as to why it is playing over and over and over in my head. It drives me insane at times. Currently the song is this: I think I have posted that one before, but the incredibly fabulous musicians at our church performed it last Sunday and I have been replaying it constantly ever since. It is a strange thing to wake up at 3 AM to a baby crying and a gospel chorus singing "It makes me want to SHOUT! Hallelujah, thank you Jesus..." :) Of course it is much better than what was playing for days on end before Sunday...ACK! I can't remember it now, but it was Willie Nelson singing about bourbon - and no, it wasn't Whisky River.... anyway, music in my head. Always.

  2. I am basically a chronic hand washer. I am constantly washing my hands throughout the day and it is especially bad when I am cooking.

  3. I am fairly superstitious. Not in a step-on-a-crack sort of way, but more in a words spoken may come to fruition sort of way. There are certain things I simply won't talk about and certain common expressions I won't say. I don't like it when others talk about certain things. I would get more specific, but the fact that I am typing this out, however cryptic, is freaking me out a little.

  4. I am also a bit of a germaphobe (thus the hand washing). You would think this would make me a better housekeeper - but sadly for some reason it doesn't work that way. I am particularly peculiar about shoes and floors. I don't often sit on people's floors and in my house, shoes are rarely ever allowed to be anywhere but on the floor. Case in point, it drives me absolutely batty that we keep Kiddo's shoes on top of his dresser. That dresser top is forever tainted in my eyes. I will never set anything other than shoes on it again. Hubby committed the most heinous of foul moves a while back when he set his shoes ON MY KITCHEN COUNTER!!! I was so completely grossed out that even after cleaning it several times over (and by several I mean about 20 or 30 times) with bleach, I still wouldn't use that part of the counter for a few weeks. I just couldn't do it. I am ok with it now, but for a while there I thought we might have to replace the counter top.

  5. I do not eat or drink anything with artificial sweetener in it (if I know it's there). I think aspartame and sucrolose are the absolute worst things you can put in your body. I can taste them almost every time. I bought a box of cereal when I was pregnant that had sucrolose and I had to throw the whole box away. I refuse to give my child anything "lite" or diet. I would rather him have the sugar than the chemicals. This puts me in a tough spot sometimes because people think that when something is "diet" or sugar free that it is better for you. I just don't believe that and I would rather eat full fat and sugared things in moderation than put all sorts of unknown chemicals in my body. I am sure that there is someone out there that will try to convince me otherwise, but I'm not changing my mind on this one. Likewise, when I cook, I use real butter. So shoot me.

  6. Hubby says I should include in this that one of my favorite dishes to make is Spinach and Eggs. It is a dish my mom used to make and has always been one of my favorites. Basically you put a can of spinach (drained) and four slightly beaten eggs in a skillet and mix it all up. Cook over medium heat, stirring and scraping the pan until it scrambles like scrambled eggs. Season with Lawry's Seasoned Salt. This is a wonderful finger food for small children as well. I don't know how this makes me weird, but Hubby said to include it so there you have it.

  7. I don't know what to put for the last one. I could tell you that I learned how to play pool (billiards) at 3 years old, I pick my kids noses, that I am very particular about what one can put in my kitchen sink (no glasses please) or that it completely irks me when someone isn't kind enough to hold a door open for a mom with a stroller...those things don't make me weird I think. [except maybe the nose picking]

  8. Here's one. A bonus for you... When Hubby and I lived in Phoenix I did a modeling gig for an ad that was published in a very obscure magazine. In the ad I am holding a sign up in front of me and it kind of looks like I might be um, ah, well, nekkid behind the sign. I assure you, I was not. I was wearing a strapless top and a skirt. Funny thing about that shoot - it happened on a day that Hubby was back in Texas visiting family. After the shoot I met up with an old professor of mine and we attended a concert on the ASU campus that was premiering one of his compositions. We went out to eat after and I didn't get home until very, very late that night. My cell phone had died (unknown to me) and apparently Hubby was trying to get a hold of me the entire time to make sure I was ok after the shoot. (It was at some guy's house, and though I knew the photographer [a woman I worked with] it was still kind of a weird situation and Hubby just wanted to make sure I was ok.) So Hubby had been calling me and leaving messages every 10 minutes or so all night and I had no clue until I came in at 2 or 3 AM. Hubby was a wreck; ready to hop on a plane back to Phoenix and find me - poor guy, I scared him to death. Another funny thing about that shoot - I had a makeup artist do my hair and makeup and I was really, really made up. In order to meet up with my old prof in time I couldn't go home and clean up. So I was in my street clothes with this big bouffant hair-do and 4 pounds of makeup on my face. I looked like a $2 - well, you know. Anyway, I think my old prof got a kick out of it. That whole experience was weird, so I guess it qualifies.

Ok, so there are my 7 - er, rather 8 things. I am also supposed to include a self portrait. Since these days I look like doggy doo - I will leave you with this instead.

And look it's in pewter!! ;)

I officially tag anyone who wants to participate.

Until,

D :)

Making Pies

First things first, I have got to show this to you. I actually received it in an email from my mom several days ago and I was amazed. Then my sweet friend Katy sent it too me again, and I then knew it was too good not to share. Sorry, the embedding was disabled, so you'll have to go to a link. Enjoy!

Now on to business...

Oh my bloggy friends, I have been letting you all down so much lately. My posts are becoming fewer and further between. I am sorry. This is truly not my intention.

Honestly, I have so many ideas for posts that I think I am getting hung up. I can't seem to prioritize them enough to just pick one and go with it. I know I could write every day if I would sit down and make myself do it. I know it might get boring here and there, but at least there would be something new every day.

But just when I get in a rhythm, Blogger starts acting up. For about a month the spell check feature was broken. I guess the blogger team was out of glue, cuz it seemed like forever before they got it working again. Then there is another issue of people not being able to comment for some reason and that ticked me off. You know how I love, love and live for comments!

Lately, the auto save feature has been acting up, and it now does this annoying new thing where it splatters this big red and yellow warning failure message across the top of the screen as you are trying to compose your post. So distracting! It draws my eye up and sometimes I just have to shut down and try later because I can't stand to see that thing up there.

Anyway, I know these are all flimsy excuses, but I just wanted to be honest and all that. Cuz I love you.

So, I am thinking about what some future posts can be and I am going to write down a list. Feel free to hold me to these if I forget to write about them...
1. Kiddo's 3 1/2 update. (slightly late, but relevant nonetheless)
2. Our church driven, 4 week Lifestyle Fast - results are in! (I know I never brought this up to begin with, but I think it's worth talking about)
3. Business announcements - gotta drive em to my website somehow! ;)
4. Baby updates - duh!
5. Facts about me (germs and artificial sweeteners - I bet you are on the edge of your seat!)
6. Pics of Hubby and Kiddo frolicking amongst the rusty tractors. Intrigued? You should be!
7. Pregnancy Dreams, the good the bad and the down right weird.
8. ugh, I know there were more, but I am having a minor brain shut down

Anyway, there you have it; a small sampling of what may or may not be rattling around in my head. Soon enough I will collect those thoughts and try to get something down on keyboard. I know you can't wait. I can feel your excitement.

Control yourself! ;)

Until,
D :)

PS. Since I use song titles for the majority of my posts, I thought it might be nice to share the actual songs with you once in a while. Hubby recently turned me on to a very talented singer/songwriter, Patty Griffin. Here is her tune, Making Pies.

The Sweetest Thing

Some great songs I heard over the weekend...
You've Been Talking in Your Sleep - Crystal Gayle

She's Got You - Patsy Cline

The Sweetest Thing - Juice Newton

I think if I were ever forced to a karaoke bar and then forced to sing, these would be my top choices. If it ever happened.

I'm just sayin'.

She Cries

Ok, so perhaps I shouldn't have said anything. Friday and Saturday morning, the Kiddo crawled into bed with me (like he does every morning), curled up all close and snugly and dozed for 30-45 minutes. I rolled over and looked into his sweet little face, all flush with sleep, and he says to me...

"Mommy, I wet."

uh huh.

So, I guess the novelty wore off sooner than expected. I can say though, that after lots of questions like "You know if you need to go tee-tee in the middle of the night you should get up, right?" and statements such as "If you need to go potty, you go, ok?. We don't want to wake up wet. Mommy is so proud of you when you wake up and are dry." He did actually wake up dry this morning. I am very proud. :)

~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~
So this morning we made it official. After attending the class and signing all the papers, giving blood and dna samples (ok, I'm kidding about the last two) we are officially members of our church. We were introduced en mass to the second service congregation today and then had to endure the torture that is two very anti social people being placed in a receiving line of sorts so that total strangers can come shake our hands. In all, over 100 people officially joined the church; that is really something to give praise for. It was interesting to see all the different people, young, old, married, single, of all races and backgrounds finding a home in our church.
And I do love that church.
And I really love the music there. I have never been much of a "praise music" person either. I mean, my greatest church music influence was in college. And when you attend the First Baptist Church of most towns you don't get to hear a whole lot of contemporary stuff; especially when the church music director is also the associate chair of the music department at the local university. So for 8 years I was influenced by the old Hymnal tunes, classical pieces and very "old school", traditional teachings. I was surrounded by church music snobs. There just has to be an organ and there has to be a full fledged choir and there can't be rhythm instruments.... well, it wasn't quite that bad, but there were some in the church that thought that way. I remember once one of the choir member's sons wanted to sing a song during a service and play an acoustic guitar. Oh the horror!! The elders all got their undies in a bunch - but they let him perform anyway (at the Sunday evening service) and it was wonderful. And being a classically trained singer with a music degree, the simplicity of most praise music was lost on my overly trained ears. Back then though, I couldn't see past my education to how much praise music reaches people - all kinds of people; and just how powerful that really is. As the years have gone by my heart has been softened to it so much.
The music at our church though is, in my opinion better than just common praise music. The musicians (vocal and instrumental) are truly gifted and most of the music performed is much more complicated than what I had been exposed to after college. It has harmonies and interesting chord progressions and lots and lots of rhythmic variations that interest my inner "music snob". And I love to learn the songs and sing along. Sometimes I make up my own harmonies and I try to envision what it would be like to be able to stand up there and sing. Only a select few get to perform on a regular basis. Rightly so as they are so very talented.
The thing about singing in a church choir all those years is that I was so very involved in Christian music that it really didn't affect me when I sang it. I mean, I got the message and felt the emotion, but it didn't interfere with my vocal ability. I sang all the time - all day at school, after class rehearsals, in between classes for fun, practicing at night, church rehearsals on Wednesday nights and the service on Sunday mornings. Between that and the concerts and just attending music functions all. the. time. it was difficult to really move me; to bring me to tears and break that emotional wall I had built because I was so used to being moved. Does that make sense? I was numb to it really. In a way it was good - it allowed me to perform at a higher level than if I were trying to sing through tears.
But these days the rehearsals and performances have been replaced with "real jobs" and child rearing and I just don't get to sing very often at all. And when I do, it's usually secular music in the car; most of it devoid of emotion and power. Most of it is boiled down to the most basic of marketing appeal and fluff. It is only on the rarest of occasions that music moves me, and usually God has to have a big hand in it.
But when I am in church, oh the music moves me.
It moves me to the point of tears, without fail, every week. The frustration I feel when I can't stop them from coming and the embarrassment of not being able to hit the notes with power and grace overwhelms me. And it makes me want to sing even more.
I must look like a total fool - standing there contorting my face to keep the tears confined within the rims of my eyes; trying to choke back the overflow of whatever it is that is exorcised from me each week. And I think that if I power through it each week, and let my soul be cleansed, eventually I will be able to make it through.
But it isn't getting any easier.
And I don't understand that.
Back in college, the only time I ever got really choked up was maybe at Christmas time. Some years I had a hard time making it through O Holy Night - especially if the choir was particularly good that year. Then sometimes on a rare performance occasion that was truly divine. When the choir made magic. When we performed in a way that we weren't really present; but rather hovering above, watching the performance as if only part of the audience; when the voices took over and the minds were somewhere else entirely. And only then we would choke up afterwards, but not during the actual singing.
I long for an opportunity to perform again. It doesn't have to be grand. It doesn't have to be prestigious or even truly meaningful or high brow or any of that. I just want to sing. I want to be enveloped in music for more than just the 20 minutes it takes to drive to the grocery store. The music at church makes me want to be up on that stage with those chosen few, singing the harmonies I know how to sing and leading the upper registers in a clear voice. But I know right now I could not do it. I can't even make it through one song. No way could I smile and "perform" and raise my hands up to God in praise. I would be too distracted by emotion and all this weirdness that pours fourth from me when I try to do the one thing I've been doing all my life. Why is it so much harder now??
I had thought it was just rusty-ness; not being in it all enough. But that's not it.
When Hubby and I lived in Phoenix, I worked nights and weekends at a wonderful upscale restaurant in Scottsdale. On Friday and Saturday nights I worked as a cocktail waitress in the bar upstairs. And on those nights we had live music. I've mentioned David recently. He is a fantastic musician and a wonderful soul and he is also extremely generous. He would let me sing with him whenever I wanted to, and I did quite often. When it was slow, he and I would practice and then once the patrons filled the bar I would sing a song or two in between slinging drinks.
I loved every. single. minute.
THAT is how I always envisioned my singing career. Sitting on a stool next to a guy on acoustic guitar singing ballads and slow jazz and all my favorite songs. And even though there had been some time between my school music career and singing with David, I never got choked up. It was easy and natural and real and I loved it. Sure, I was nervous. And some nights it was all I could do to sing to an empty room - but I never experienced the emotional car wreck that happens to me each Sunday in church.
What is that?!?
I wish I knew. And I wish I could get over it already and enjoy singing again.
Until,
D :)
Standing Still
Ugh, I think I have carpel tunnel now. I have been non-stop editing for the past 2 days and my wrist and my elbow (of all things) is killing me!
I haven't even had the chance to read any blogs today! Oh the shame!
I still have one more session to proof and then I am done. Yippie! Kiddo gets his mommy back! Christmas decorations may actually go up; the floor will be visible once again. Ok, well, the floor will be visible for a minute or two at least.
In baby news, I am doing good. He is moving around all the time now. I have a level II ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday and I am so excited. And nervous. And excited. And stressed. I am afraid of what they might find, but glad for the opportunity to see the baby in such detail. I pray that all is well. Lord, please give me strength.
I guess that is it for now. I am too brain dead for much else at the moment.
A little Jewel for you... Standing Still
The Way You Wait
Hi All,
I am elbow deep in editing photos right now and just not much is going through my head other than photoshop techniques.
But I have been feeling nostalgic lately, what with the holidays coming up and all, and so I have been surfing around during my breaks and came across an old friend of mine. I once had the absolute honor of singing with this man on a few occasions, and as I will tell you about later, they were some of the best times of my life.
But, before I get all into that, I thought you might want to hear some of his work. Ladies and Gents, may I introduce to you Mr. David Shepherd Grossman.
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
My favorite all time Holiday album. I know, it's probably too early for most of you, but I pulled it out today and added it to my mp3 player play list. Next I am going to find The King:
This one, this one, Or this one.
But they may be hard to find.
I really wish I had this...
although the original recording had a bunch more songs on it. We had it on 8-track when I was a little girl. (does that date me a little??) My first car had an 8-track player too.... YIKES!
Some new ones I would love to own: this one
or this one,
because I bet they are spectacular!
But the thing about putting holiday cds on my xmas list, is that by the time I get them, it will be too late to listen to them! Oh, the irony.
What to do....what to do...
Lookit this! The best of both worlds! Jewel sings Elvis!
It may be a Merry Christmas after all! ;)
Until,
D :)
I Shall Be Released
So I guess you may be wondering why I am so excited that it is November. Well, there are lots of reasons.
1) Supposedly this is the month all my Medicaid stuff kicks in - that is, I will officially be on a "plan" and hopefully I can go to my old OB and then to a referred, desperately needed specialist. I am excited that this baby might finally get the care he needs.
2) I am busy. I know it sounds strange, but I have at least 4 photo shoots booked to happen in the next 2 weeks and I am going to be swamped!! But, it is totally a good thing and I am looking forward to it.
3) 2 of the aforementioned photo shoots are taking place in Dallas. I am so excited to have a chance to get away (without the Hubby or the Kiddo) for a couple of days. Even though I will be working, it is basically my one and only chance to get any kind of break since the Kiddo was born; and it is the one and only chance for a break that I will get for a long time. Because, let's be honest, once baby #2 gets here my life will not be my own anymore. What very little "me time" I have now will be non-existent. I won't get breaks, I won't get sleep, and I certainly won't get to do anything without another little being strapped to me for quite some time. I NEED this getaway to Dallas. I deserve some time alone.
4) November is the start of the "holiday season" for me!! I love everything about this time of year. I can't wait to pull out my holiday music cds and sing my little heart out. It does make me a bit sad in that I am reminded that I am not involved in any sort of choir, but I can get over it. I know a lot of people don't like looking at and being bombarded with all the Christmas stuff before Black Friday - but I say bring it on!!! (just not before November 1st, ok? Santa should never be placed along side the Grim Reaper - that's all I'm sayin' about that.) Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without the decorations and family and food and I think all of that ties in with Christmas too. You can't have on without the other. As a matter of fact, I dreamt I was singing Christmas music last night. It is time!
5) Of course I have to say I am excited about November because of NaBloPoMo! I love participating, making new friends and discovering fabulous new blog reads.
There is more, but the Kiddo is yanking on my leg and typing has become difficult. Besides, if I write too much now, I won't have anything for tomorrow, right?!?
What are you thankful for this month? What gets you excited? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Until,
D :)
